Mobaderoon operates within the framework of a clear vision: “Building trust and understanding to support and maintain peaceful coexistence”
Our Vision
Mobaderoon is a pioneering civic organisation, founded in 2009 by Abir Hajibrahim and Ghada Alrifai dedicated to “Building trust and understanding to support and sustain peaceful coexistence”.
Our mission is to foster a culture of values-based and participatory peacebuilding for Syrians and people living in conflict-affected areas. As a women-led organization, we are at the forefront of peacebuilding, grounded in human values and principles. We dedicate our efforts to reweaving the social fabric torn apart by years of war. Since our founding in 2009, we have served as a beacon of hope, reconciliation, and collective healing—firm in our belief that true peace begins with people and exists for their sake.
Today, as Syria enters a critical new phase, our vision is renewed and our mission sharpened: to actively contribute to national peacebuilding through community reconciliation, inclusive dialogue, and bold, authentic storytelling.
We believe that reconciliation is not merely a political file, but a profound societal experience—one that must be lived collectively and nurtured through meaningful human connection. That is why we work through safe spaces for courageous dialogue, trauma-sensitive facilitation, civic education, and ethical media practices.
Our Strategy
Our Strategy for 2024–2027 is Built on Four Foundational Pillars: Mobaderoon is the result fruit of a diverse knowledge gathered since 2009. Mobaderoon shares this knowledge throughout consultations and training programs, which responds to the capacity building needs on several levels. Including programs that support children and teenagers, programs that support youth and individual leaders, and programs that support initiative takers and social projects leaders. Mobaderoon provides its training and advisory services to many entities:
As we commemorate Syrian freedom, we renew our promise to stand with our communities, elevate their voices, and never stop building peace—one conversation, one connection, one community at a time.
Comprehensive capacity - building programs and specialized training tailored to peacebuilding, dialogue facilitation, and civic engagement.
Research initiatives and administrative skill development that strengthen local leadership and institutional resilience.
Workshops, studies, and conferences that foster knowledge exchange, dialogue, and multi-stakeholder collaboration.
The founders of Mobaderoon, Abir Hajibrahim and Ghada Alrifai, have made significant contributions to peacebuilding and urban planning in conflict-affected areas. Their dedication, recognized through numerous awards, continues to inspire and lead initiatives that promote peace, dialogue, and community development in Syria and beyond. Their work demonstrates the power of grassroots initiatives and international partnerships in fostering sustainable peace and development.
Co-Founder
Abir co-founded the "Mobaderoon" peacebuilding network, where she engaged diverse groups in dialogue and helped develop tools for community participation and youth empowerment. As the conflict in Syria intensified, she played a central role in conflict resolution by co-leading the Peace Ambassadors program, training over 300 young people to counter sectarianism and foster inclusion across cultural and ethnic divides. Abir’s impact goes beyond Syria. She is an active member of the WASL international network of women peacebuilders, co-founder of Globally Connected in the Netherlands, and a contributor to initiatives like Mobader UAE and DARB in Turkey. She also played a key role in the Syrian Civil Society Room during the Geneva peace talks.
Co-Founder
Ghada is an accomplished architect and urban planner from Aleppo, Syria. She co-founded Mobaderoon, a network dedicated to peacebuilding, and has earned international recognition for her work. Ghada's expertise ranges from rehabilitating Aleppo's Old City to leading urban development projects that focus on creating child-friendly cities. Ghada's current research aims to integrate urban planning with peacebuilding to foster social cohesion, economic recovery, and sustainable peace in conflict-affected areas, particularly in Syria. Her work involves spatial analysis, participatory planning, and policy analysis, striving to make urban spaces more inclusive and resilient.
As Syrians across the world celebrate the spirit of freedom and resilience, we at Mobaderoon stand with every individual dreaming of a peaceful, united, and just Syria.
We are a women-led, values-based peacebuilding foundation committed to weaving the social fabric back together—across communities torn by years of conflict. Founded on courage, trust, and civic action, Mobaderoon has been a beacon for social reconciliation and national healing since 2009.
Today, as Syria takes steps into a new era, our mission is clearer than ever: to contribute to national peacebuilding through grassroots-led reconciliation, inclusive dialogue, and courageous storytelling.
