What motivates a person to wake up in the morning to attend a football match for his favourite team?
What drives people to gather to create clubs?
What drives people to travel across countries to hear one piece of music?
What is the thing that motivates a doctor or an engineer to apply for the most important international grants, but with regard to building peace or building societies?
Passion is the motivator, the drive, the force that drives us to do all the work we do.
Passion: It is the first encouragement to adhere to the principles, and places where principles are concerned, there is a lot of space for expressing passion. As community leaders, it is very important to discover and express our passion and also encourage others to know their passion and capture it and launch from it for any community work or any intervention that they will undertake.
Types of passion in leadership
Identity and Diversity
When passion is in identity and diversity, I must be able to encourage others to be able to develop their identities and discover the uniqueness of other identities, to be able to encourage communities to invest in the richness and diversity found in their identities and to adopt new interventions, to advocate for societal issues, and to be able as an individual, I develop my identity on my journey towards the future.
Creative leadership
As a passionate and enthusiastic community leader interested in building new community leaders who lead positive change, my passion will drive me to look and notice the energies that exist in societies, the energies generated during our interaction with others, and to offer them tools and enable them to ask powerful questions that take them to build real interventions to reach positive change that you aspire to, all of this stems from a passion for empowering individuals.
The society
When we think about the society to which we currently belong, which is a group of people who share a place, a history, or even a passion, thinking leads us to wonder about the strengths or pride that exist within this society, what are the points that I will face or challenge within the society, and based on my passion in my society will push me to acknowledge all the aspects in it, and make me take responsibility for the influence that I as a community leader is able to influence within the community.
How does leadership stem from passion?
As a community leader, my passion may push me to work on children’s issues, but I must not lose sight of the importance of the generations role in reaching the goal of change that I aspire to in working with children, and I must understand other systems, and I must also know who are the partners who work with the rest of the generations and try to understand the partners and work together to reach the impact we aspire to. As community leaders, as we work with generational issues or with generations, it is important to think about how to create an environment that allows for the development and education of generations regardless of their age group, and how to encourage dialogues that can lead to the positive changes we aspire to within our societies.
“Partners must be understood and work together to reach the impact we aspire to.”
If I am passionate about men issues and women (gender): this passion may motivate me to take action to learn society’s assumptions about men and women, and to see, acknowledge and appreciate the leadership roles that each of them plays in our societies, to be able to seek and highlight equitable opportunities for men and women on them during my interactions with others, whether in my work or in my community.
And if I am a community leader whose passion is to build and develop individuals, I will always make sure and remember that the importance of (ego) in self-building and development, and I must always positively investigate the strengths within me and notice the opportunities around me, because as a community leader I must realize that my behavior affects others and that the more I build and develop myself, the more I automatically develop other individuals and therefore we all develop our society.
