Self-empathy

Self -empathy is one of the most important gains in empathic communication.

Gandhi says: “Be the change you wish to see in the world”; to be able to empathize with oneself, we must talk about the following points :

1.Realizing what distinguishes oneself:

Culture, through the passage of time, tames us to become these stereotypes; a reminder of the legend of Procrustes who sought tailoring people to fit the size of an iron bed through acts of violence.

Our awareness of what distinguishes us helps us realize the beauty within, based on our self-love and our desire to develop and grow.

2. Seek the fun side in your endeavors

i.e. turn the ought to be(s), the must(s), and the should(s) into acts of choice.

Here’s a simple  exercise: try to write the things you do that are not a source of joy besides the label (must). Now, what choice are you to make?

The remainder items in this (must) menu should be completed as thus: I have a need to do this so that I become aware of my needs and actions out of the must(s) and ought to be(s). hence, providing me with the chance to later ask for what can help me have fun, and what suits me on both the personal and humane levels.

3. Reconciliation with oneself,  or joyous regret:

Think of a behavior you consider to be wrong, something you have done that you still regret. Now, think of your emotions and feelings at that moment in the past; could you have done something differently? The answer is no, for your choices were based on your realization, feelings, knowledge, and needs of the past; while today you should look at the past out of your current experience, so you can move. It is crucial to see the past in the eye of self-love, along with the direction you wish to take for growth.
